For the new year, many are focusing on health, fitness, and making better choices throughout the year. Valpo Parks is no exception, which is why they’ve partnered with the City of Valparaiso to bring a larger focus to creating a Fit City!
The Valparaiso Parks Department again lit the candles and set out cookies and hot chocolate to invite area residents to come out for an evening of fun and exercise along the award-winning Vale Park West Pathway.
Porter County Parks & Recreation invites one and all to Sunset Hill Farm Park (775 Meridian Rd., Liberty Township) to enjoy our Winter Lights displays. Over 300 lighted displays, many hand-made by members of the Northwest Indiana Historical Power Association and park staff, are arranged around the park. Visitors are welcome to drive through the park to view the lights.
Residents, staff, members of the Valparaiso Chamber of Commerce, and community members met at The Lakes of Valparaiso on Tuesday to celebrate the opening of Trail Park with a ribbon cutting. The new park brings even more recreation to residents, offering a tennis court, basketball court, two sand volleyball courts, and a bark park.
Porter County Parks & Recreation was pleased to welcome volunteers from Swartz, Retson & Co. Certified Accountants to Sunset Hill Farm Park on Friday, September 29, 2017 for a Day of Service. These volunteers worked to clear invasive plants from the natural prairie and plant beneficial trees around the pond. Greg Ward, Principal at Swartz, Retson & Co. said “Our firm likes to volunteer as a way to give back to the community. We choose Porter County Parks and Recreation since it has great facilities like Sunset Hill Farm that many of us use and want keep nice for years to come.”
The East Branch of the Little Calumet River is one of Northwest Indiana’s invaluable natural resources, providing habitat for aquatic wildlife and picturesque views for hikers on nearby trails. Save the Dunes, Shirley Heinze Land Trust, the National Park Service, Student Conservation Association, and the Northwest Indiana Paddling Association are working to restore habitat and improve access along the river corridor.
Ogden Gardens celebrated the addition of new lighting on Monday evening with friends and community members alike. Since 1958, Ogden Gardens has stunned its visitors. With its beautiful flowers, trees, gazebo, and Japanese Garden, viewers are continually rendered speechless by the gifts that this garden has to offer. The lighting was not only a celebration of Ogden Gardens history, but also a symbol for peace and safety within the community.

Valpo Parks Welcomes Jeff Samardzija to Groundbreaking Celebration of 'Samardzija Field’ at Newly Renovated Tower Park
A day filled with celebrations for the Valpo Parks and the Valpo Parks Foundation culminated on Thursday afternoon when stakeholders celebrated the groundbreaking of Samardzija Field, which featured former Valparaiso High School and Notre Dame Football legend and current San Francisco Giants pitcher Jeff Samardzija.
Valpo Parks kicked off a tremendous day for Tower Park with two dedication ceremonies officially opening their new Boilermaker Court and Viking Court, each part of a $1 million renovation of Tower Park.
