'It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas' in northwest Indiana! From cookies with Santa, tree light celebrations to a hike in the park, northwest Indiana has TONS of activities this weekend!
Valpo-land native, Jeff Degeneffe, has learned to perfect the balance of work and passion. He, in fact, has almost intermingled the two, as he puts equal energy towards both, never ceasing to impress his main competition: himself.
Trotting on Turkey Day Down Turkey Lane
The alarm sounds. The light is turned on. Grunts can be heard as one hobbles to the bathroom. Cereal is eaten too early in the morning. The car door unlocks as runners pile in and make their way to Valparaiso High School when the weather is brisk and damp and the sun is still down.
It is the morning of Thanksgiving, and over 3,000 participants began to file in a line to check-in, grab their pins and tags, and stretch as 8:00 quickly approaches. 7:45 and the runners, joggers, and walkers began to brave the cold as they line up at the start/finish line. Teeth chattered and cheeks had become rosy with every bone-chilling minute spent outside.
On your marks. Get set. Pop. 3,090 participants began to stampede the streets of Valparaiso as they faced a 5k...
This past month, Boone Grove High Schools journalism class in its inaugural year traveled to CIBC Theater in Chicago to see the musical Hamilton: An American Musical.
Thanks to a generous local business donation, the class of over twenty students spent the day in the city wrapping up the “American Revolution and Journalism” unit they had just completed.
Students came in for a normal day of class when they were surprised with the news. Sophomore Catrina DeLeon was one of the lucky students.
“I’ve wanted to see if for two years, and the fact that this opportunity was so easily given to us, I’ll forever be grateful.”, said DeLeon.
She is also active in BGHS theatre and took notice saying, “The play had a mix of everything from romance and comedy and all the...
Chesterton High School hosted their musical on Friday November 16th, Saturday November 17th, and Sunday November 18th. The musical, The Sound of Music, told the beloved story of nun Maria becoming a governess to the von Trapp family. The musical had a fun cast with Rebecca Lane as Maria, Daniel Schmiegel as Captain von Trapp, and Isabelle Maddex as Liesel.
With every new school year bringing a new musical to perform, many ponder how these musicals are selected.
“The Sound of Music will allow a lot of students to participate” Choral teacher and musical director Kristen Morris said, “It’ll bring the community in to see the students’ talents.”
The cast showed ecstatic energy about the show.
“I hope this experience will help me grow as a performer as well as a...
Hi, I’m Matt Thomas, and I grew up across the street from the Gotts. My condolences to his grandchildren, Grandma Gott, Mrs. Gott, Kim, Jeff, and Tommie--I know you’re Tom now, but to me you’ll always be Tommie, and Grandma Gott will always be Grandma Gott, and Mrs. Gott, Mrs. Gott, and Coach Gott will always be Coach.
I grew up in Lake Village, a small town here in Indiana most haven’t even heard of, with my two older sisters and younger brother. I’ve always loved the small town feel, but when I married my husband we moved to a larger town, North Judson. We live peacefully with our evil cat and three year old munchkin, who are the most important people in my life. With all that said, there are still a few more layers to peel back. After getting a degree in Graphic Design, I worked as a manager in the food service for a few years, and worked on photography as well on the side. I’d like to believe I’m well rounded, with so many interests in the mix, it's hard to settle with just one. I’m also that person who will talk to you in line at the grocery store, even if I don’t know you (Thanks Mom!).
The weekend is almost here and there's TONS of fun activities for everyone! From 'A Charlie Brown Christmas" at Chicago Street Theater, an Arctic 5k run by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Northwest Indiana, to Hammond's Holiday Parade, and much more!
Behind every thriving city, there are passionate, dedicated workers who add life and vibrance to the community. In Valparaiso, Holly Taylor is the perfect example.
When WHS choir director, Pam Hardesty, told her choirs that they were invited to perform in the world premier of Johan de Meij’s Symphony Number 5 Return to Middle Earth, they had no idea what they were about to get involved in.
