What’s Going On?
Following along the excitement that was the boys basketball season, our very own VHS Vikings won the sectional title earlier this month. It’s been a hard fought season, with its share of surprises and upsets, but all of the student fans are incredibly proud of the boys for going as far as they did and getting the Viking name out there.
A Northwest Indiana native, Bob Moulesong is an author with seven books published so far. He has been a freelance journalist for about 25 years, writing for newspapers and local magazines. Now, he has a contract with Pen It! Publications, a traditional publisher based out of Columbus, Indiana.
Can you believe March is already nearing its end? This week moves us closer to Spring and Northwest Indiana is thawing out with some fun activities! Check out these fun events coming up this weekend as the Easter Bunny readies his basket of goodies!
What’s Going On
This year, Chesterton High School’s annual winter play was meant for the whole family, which was a change from past productions such as “The Crucible.” Anne Sharp directed the theatre’s presentation of Della Tazel’s “The Tale of Cinderella,” and theatre held three performances as well as a children’s performance on Wednesday, Feb. 21.
There are all kinds of stories about how people get into a career. For some, they enter a field by coincidence or circumstance, others look for pay, but some follow and fulfill lifelong passions like Saylor Elementary School’s Rachel Smith. A second-grade teacher, Smith wanted to be a teacher even back when she was in elementary school.

The season is over... it hurts. People on the outside say, " It is just a game." Even the people you think get you, So how do you explain it? Or maybe it isn't worth explaining? But what is it then??? They ask these questions, honestly baffled by our grief. The team that shared blood, sweat and tears are,in fact brothers ... and my kids brothers, and my adopted sons.
The Region has proved, once again, that this is the hotbed of high school gymnastics in our State. Chesterton and Valparaiso dominated the team competition, with Chesterton winning the Team State Title with 114.4, the second highest total ever at a State meet. Valparaiso recorded the 4th highest score, with a 113.95, to place second. Third place Columbus North was a distant third at 110.4. Results for the individual awards were also dominated by these two teams, with 22 of the 33 individual medals won by Chesterton and Valparaiso gymnasts!
What’s Been Going On: Senior Night
On February 23, 2018, the James W. Dold Gymnasium would house one of the biggest crowds of the season. Including Senator fans ranging from parents, friends, and community members, the stands were filled with support for this year’s senior athletes. Along with the nostalgia of Senior Night, the game played on February 23 was a big one for the Washington Township Boys Varsity Basketball Team; the team was set to play the Morgan Township Cherokees.
This week in Northwest Indiana, there is a cornucopia of things to do as the Region begins to feel the sunny embrace of springtime! From magic shows and musical performances to a market for homeowners, there is sure to be a little something for everyone to enjoy!
