Purdue's Moore Named Second-Team Academic All-American

Purdue junior guard E’Twaun Moore was recognized as one of the finest men’s basketball scholar-athletes in the nation on Monday when he was named a second-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American.

An Organizational Leadership and Supervision major who was on the ballot by way of an Academic All-District 5 selection, Moore was the lone Big Ten student-athlete to earn the acclaim and the first Boilermaker to do so since 2001.

“E’Twaun comes from a great family, and he was raised to work hard both on and off the court,” Purdue head coach Matt Painter said. “He is someone who personifies the meaning of ‘scholar-athlete.’ I’m happy for E’Twaun because I know how excited and grateful he is to receive this honor.”

A native of East Chicago, Ind., Moore leads the Boilermakers in scoring with an average of 17.2 points per game. He has netted 20 or more points on eight occasions this season, leading Purdue in scoring in 12 games en route to becoming just the 43rd player in program history to record 1,000 points for his career.

Moore has also moved onto Purdue’s career assists list this season, becoming just the 13th player in program history to record both 1,000 points and 250 assists during his tenure in West Lafayette.

Moore has posted improved numbers on the defensive end this season as well, ranking among the Big Ten leaders with a career-best average of 1.35 steals per game.

With Moore’s selection, Purdue has now seen eight players earn a total of 10 Academic All-America honors since 1972.
